Peter J. Brent, EA, CFP®
Pete graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in Economics and Finance and enjoyed a successful career as a high school Business Education teacher. While teaching, he started a small, home-based income tax practice, which became the foundation for Brent Financial Group. From its humble roots, the business has evolved into its current format of a full-service, client-centered financial consulting and wealth management firm.
Pete's credentials include FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities registrations (held through Commonwealth Financial Network) and life insurance licenses. He became an IRS Enrolled Agent in 1977, earned his CFP® certification in 1986, and completed graduate work in taxation at Pace University.
Pete loves living in New York's Hudson Valley with its many beautiful and historic sites to explore. He and his wife Christina are avid travelers, but they also enjoy relaxing at home with a good book. He has always been passionate about baseball, particularly his New York Yankees. Pete has a long history of involvement in the community, and he currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley, and he continues his 20+ year involvement with the Alzheimer's Association Hudson Valley Chapter.

Laurie Brent Schiavone, CFP®
Laurie is a 1985 graduate of Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania, where she majored in economics and minored in statistics. She joined Brent Financial Group in 1989 and has been a registered representative of Commonwealth Financial Network®, Member FINRA/SIPC, since 1992. Laurie is involved in all areas of the practice. Her credentials include FINRA Series 7 and 63 securities registrations (held through Commonwealth Financial Network), life insurance licenses, and the CFP® certification.
Laurie lives in Poughkeepsie, New York, with her husband, Frank. They have four sons—Maxwell, Garrett, Jacob, and Nathan. Her family has a community ministry, Jane's Grace, which started from Laurie's volunteer time with a local domestic violence shelter. Active members of their gospel church, they have made serving others a priority as a family.
Thomas Bridgman, EA
Director, Tax Operations
Tom joined Brent Financial in 2008 and has been preparing individual, small business, and nonprofit tax returns since 2003. He has been manager of tax operations since 2015. Previously, he was a programmer with IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York.
Tom is licensed to practice before the Internal Revenue Service and is an active member of the NY/CT Association of Tax Professionals and the National Association of Tax Professionals. He received a bachelor's degree from Pace University and a certificate in financial planning from Marist College. He and his daughter live in Wappingers Falls.
Kim joined Brent Financial Group in 1997 as an administrative assistant to Peter and Laurie. She holds a degree in English and psychology from the State University of New York at Fredonia, and she earned a certificate in office administration from Krissler Business Institute. She holds her FINRA Series 6, 55, and 63 securities registrations through Commonwealth Financial Network, and she also has her New York state insurance license.
Kim lives in Hyde Park, New York, with her daughter, Cory, and she has a son, Colin, who lives in Texas. She is an avid yoga student, and she loves to dance, write, walk around the many beautiful sites of the Hudson Valley, explore new places, and visit interesting art, gift, and antique shops.
Rosemarie has spent her career in the legal, insurance & real estate industries. She is an 8-year retired Freelance Professional Court Reporter covering from Southern Westchester to the Sullivan County line. She previously worked as a Legal Assistant for a local town justice, retired 23 years as a NYS Independent Insurance Agent, and retired NYS Real Estate Salesperson. In the past, "Ro" has enjoyed working part time as a Weight Watchers Leader having received their most prestigious award for coaching the most members to their Lifetime goals.
Ro and her husband combined have seven children with their last child still at home. Besides the Yankees, they share a passion of buying, selling, renovating, renting, and flipping real estate and have just finished their ninth project.
Other activities include enjoying the beach, gardening, cooking, mastering gluten-free baking, entertaining family and friends and her many pets.
Renée Laferriere, EA
Senior Tax Advisor
Renée joined Brent Financial Group in 2012. She has been preparing federal and state income tax returns since 1990. In January 2015, Renee was granted the federal designation of Enrolled Agent. Renee holds a BS in mathematics from the University of New Hampshire.
Originally from New England, Renée and her husband, Brian, have lived in the Hudson Valley for more than 25 years. They have three children and reside in Pleasant Valley. When she is not preparing tax returns, Renée is a soccer mom (and basketball, baseball/softball, ballet, band, and orchestra mom!).
Amy Lawer, EA
Senior Tax Advisor
Amy has been preparing taxes for over ten years, specializing in individual and small business returns. With prior experience in the Navy and a background in Emergency medicine, she spent almost 20 years as a paramedic in New York State before becoming an Enrolled Agent in 2014. She strives to educate my clients regarding their specific tax situations, and help them legally attain their tax goals through appropriate tax planning.
She is a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP), NY/CT Association of Tax Professionals, and the American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (ASTPS), and has completed Representation Boot Camp. She serves as a director and member of the education committee for the NY chapter of the NATP, as well as the education committee of NY/CT ATP.
Amy is the proud mother of four adult children, two fur-kids, and the grandmother of four amazing little ones. She enjoys reading, making jewelry, crafts, and volunteering with a children's cancer group.
Vee Miller, EA
Senior Tax Advisor
Vee received her associate's degree from Dutchess Community College, her bachelor's degree from SUNY Cortland, and her master's degree from SUNY New Paltz. She is enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service and has been preparing taxes since 1985. In addition, Vee received a certificate of financial planning from Marist College in 1997.
Vee joined Brent Financial Group in 1995. In her role, she prepares individual returns, business returns, and payroll forms. She is an active member of the National Association of Tax Practitioners. Vee has taught numerous tax courses locally at Marist College for the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification program.
Vee and her husband, Rick, reside in Poughkeepsie, New York. They have three children, Julie, Kristen, and John, and three grandchildren. In her spare time, Vee enjoys reading and crossword puzzles.
Emily joined Brent Financial Group as a seasonal, part-time employee in November 2007 and worked as a front desk receptionist during tax seasons in 2008–2009. In the off-season, she worked as a docent at one of the Hudson Valley’s historic estates. Emily holds a degree in history from Pace University, and her career path also includes archivist, dressmaker, and fabric conservator.
In September 2010, Emily accepted a full-time position at Brent Financial as an assistant to Pete and Laurie and helps run the financial planning side of the business with Kim Crose.
Emily lives in the town of Poughkeepsie with her husband, Harold. Weekends find the house full of their four children and their families, which now include two granddaughters.
Emily and Harold volunteer with the American Field Service and include six international students as part of their extended family. Emily is active in her church choir, English Handbell choir, and the Hudson Valley Ladies Aide Society—an American Civil War civilian reenactment group. She enjoys quilting, baking, and watching classic American musicals.
Rose Sasso, EA
Senior Tax Advisor
Rose joined Brent Financial in 2010, bringing 16 years of tax preparation experience in personal and small business tax returns, including rental property and investments, tax audits, and tax planning. Her previous experience includes 10 years as a foreign currency trader and 9 years as a child associate for Wappingers Central School District.
Rose lives with her husband and three children in Wappingers Falls and enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and sports.
